Here’s the trouble with “dieting” in your 40s, 50s and even 60s.
Calorie restriction increases hunger and cravings. Willpower overcomes this for a while. But in the end willpower isn’t enough. It runs out.
Exercise will increase energy expenditure but unless you eat in the right way, your body will respond, balancing out the energy equation by making you feel hungry, craving your favourite foods and then dampening your metabolism to conserve energy.
Instead, do what our mid-life clients do. They raise their metabolic rate, reduce cravings, enjoy their favourite foods and ditch the struggle with “keeping the weight off” by doing something they actually enjoy.

Hello, maybe we should share a little about ourselves...
Hi, I’m Darren, and I’m Allison. This is where we are supposed to tell you we once struggled just like you and then, in 6 short weeks, turned it all around - and so you can, too.
Thing is, we didn’t. This is not that kind of a "I did it, so you can too" story.
We have, however, worked with thousands of people over 30 years as professionals on a mission to truly help people change. And so you can, too 😊
I (Darren) was a University lecturer in Liverpool teaching my students all about sport and exercise psychology. I had completed my degree and masters degree and was working towards my PhD when it hit me.
I could teach Uni students for the rest of my life to know "in theory" how to help people make shifts in their thinking to achieve amazing results, or I could go and do it.
You know what they say: those who can, do. And those who can’t, teach. No way, that wasn’t for me. That was not going to be my legacy!
So, I quit. I became a Personal Trainer (to my parents dismay I might add) but it worked out well (and they are proud now). I travelled the world and built an amazing business combining the three magical ingredients that make this whole fitness thing work: Mindset, Exercise and Nutrition.
Thing is, when Allison and I combined forces ventured into the online space and, indeed, opened our first studio, we still experienced some clients getting amazing results and others not.
And that really bothered us.
It was like there was still a missing piece we hadn’t mastered.
And then boom 💥
It was crazy. A student I had trained 20 years prior had built up a multiple 6-figure fitness business, sold out and had become director of an organisation that had started a huge movement in nutrition and health. Leading doctors from literally all around the world were there. They were united in refreshing the truth about nutrition, disease, fat loss and even mental wellbeing with a far more evidenced-based approach than ever before. And we were invited as guests to attend. We attended annually for a few years.
And boy, it was good.
The final piece was installed into our approach and clients achieved better and better results. The results lasted and clients told us how they had re-learned everything they thought they knew about nutrition and health, too. And when they did, their whole life changed.
Today, our clients no longer fight themselves to get fit and healthy. They no longer yo-yo diet. And their battle that had lasted decades is gone.
When I (Allison) left Uni I ended up in Portugal working as a PT, fast forward a few years and I was managing a high-end facility and working back to back with high-end PT clients. But do you know what? They just didn’t get anywhere near the results their efforts (in my sessions) and the price they were paying warranted.
3 kids later and a break from working I returned to the UK and back to work, this time determined to ensure my clients got the results I wanted for them.
I retrained, and added this “coaching” element to by tool box. And when I say coaching I mean making sure clients didn’t just train hard, but were more consistent with their eating, with their daily cardio (separate from “workouts” including walking or taking up a sport again for example) and creating the lifestyle they wanted.
And boom 💥
I set up a ladies-only group fitness program, and soared to being fully booked once again and, this time, loving much better results than ever before.
However, it wasn’t until we fixed the BIG problem i.e. that their nutrition wasn’t quite right that we witnessed the results we now enjoy with our clients today.
It was the fake science that low fat is best. The scaremongering around cholesterol and, quite frankly, lies about the notion it’s just a question of calories in versus calories out, which just isn’t true.
